The Grey Area was founded in 2024 by Oscar and Melissa DaCosta after Oscar's brain tumour diagnosis, to support people in the Cayman Islands living with neurological illness and their families. Its work rests on three areas: financial assistance for costs such as off-island treatment travel, medication co-pays, therapies and equipment; awareness and education through school outreach, community events and accessible resources; and support through peer contact, caregiver check-ins, a Clinical Advisory Board and a professional directory. The charity works alongside doctors and hospitals rather than replacing them, helping with practical matters such as calls, paperwork, airport runs and meals. The website invites people to donate or volunteer.
